Accessibility

Cuerden Valley Park / The Park / Accessibility

Cuerden Valley Park Trust is committed to improving accessibility to the park wherever possible. During spring and summer of 2023, with support from Lancashire County Council and SUSTRANS, we embarked on a programme of works to improve infrastructure at 5 entrances to the park, ensuring that they are as open as possible. This included removing kissing gates and barriers to allow for easier access.

New Footpath

At the same time, we also created a new accessible path with resting spots and a 1:12 gradient from our Visitor Centre down into the Valley bottom where it connects with the tarmac path which forms part of the Cycle way. This gives much improved access for all to the heart of the park.

Offroad Mobility Scooter ‘Tramper’ – Hire

The final part of our current accessibility improvements is the addition of two refurbished offroad mobility scooters / ‘Trampers’ for hire from our Visitor Centre at Berkeley Drive.  The Tramper have kindly been loaned to the Trust by LCC’s Public Rights of Way team.

Anyone wishing to hire the vehicles can contact the park team to arrange for a half day hire and use in the park.

There is a modest fee of £5 per half day and £8 for a full day hire to allow for the upkeep of the vehicles.

Anyone wishing to hire one of the vehicles should contact the Visitor Centre directly to discuss their requirements and availability.

Please note:
We offer an induction for all users which, once complete, allows for repeat hire of a mobility scooter(s). An annual refresher course may be needed for infrequent visitors.
