Cuerden’s rich history
Cuerden Valley Park is a hidden gem in Lancashire’s rural heartland. With over 650 acres of woodland, grassland and reed beds including a 5km section of the river Lostock the park is a perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature. We have a reservoir, 15 ponds and 3 reed beds which are home to Great Crested Newts, Willow Tits and Herons. Our woodlands are home to a huge variety of insects, birds and small mammals.
Last year we supported 1200 children from across 43 local schools during our forest school program. Most importantly, we have and will always remain a lifeline for the local community. We remained open throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and saw a massive influx in visitor numbers during the summer 0f 2020; this was of paramount importance to us as we wanted to be there for the community in its time of need – where access to green space was more important than ever.
Cuerden Valley Park should be on the map of great days out in the North West – There’s so much to see and do.
Our Future
We aim to become the most accessible country park in the NW and, with the addition of a new footpath, 5 new accessible entrances and two ‘Tramper’ offroad mobility scooters we are well on the way to achieving this.
We aspire to become a unique training venue for the NW, supporting well-being and mental health through the teaching of a host of traditional and heritage skills like coppicing and charcoal making, willow weaving and hedge-laying.
As an event space the park is incredible and holds so much potential. Our Walled Orchard is the perfect venue for your event, each year it plays host to a fantastic Beer and Gin Festival, a number of music events, open air theatre and is available for private hire.
But we need more support, more awareness, more volunteers, more ideas and more involvement.

Our Challenge
What most people don’t know is that the Park has been run by a small charity since its creation in 1992. Looking after the park is a huge challenge and one which relies on the fantastic support of volunteers and donations from the local community and increasingly the wider business community.
The Trust is a fantastic charity partner for many businesses, not just as a good cause to donate to but also because we can offer so much more:
- Volunteering days – conservation tasks and habitat creation
- Team building – bonding through shared tasks with a sustainable ethos via our Cuerden Taskmaster
- Corporate events – for example: Axe throwing and a barbeque at our hidden bar in our Walled Orchard.
Whether you are a small, medium or large business we can create a fresh way of engaging with your team and customers.
We invite you to join us on this incredible journey.
